Tips For Door Supervisors Working Out In The Cold

The UK could be set for the coldest four months EVER starting from November.

Those numbingly cold nights checking IDs at the door are set to become even more blistering as the UK faces its coldest winter in a decade, even more even frosty than last year’s ‘Beast from the East. Yikes!

Despite the UK basking in a record summer heatwave and many of us practically passing out on the Central Line thanks to the sweltering heat, weather experts say the coming winter blizzard could be even colder than the big freeze of 2010, which saw the coldest December since records began in 1910.

And if that’s the case, we may have to install our hi-vis jackets with fitted pocket radiators and a boiling hot water bottle.

The risks of being exposed to the extreme cold are numerous and dangerous, not to mention catching the flu. And let’s be honest, nobody wants the flu.

So here at Get Licensed, we have taken it among ourselves to help you look out for the warning signs of hypothermia and what to wear in the case of a blitzing snow avalanche.

1 – Wear appropriate and warm clothing

Let’s be honest, hi-vis jackets aren’t exactly the warmest of items. So, we encourage those Door Supervisors who are working out in the piercing cold to wear several layers of clothing. Remember, when choosing to clothe, be aware that some clothing may restrict movement which, so be selective of what you wear. Oh, and don’t forget the woolly hat and gloves too.

2 – Regular breaks in the warm

Door Supervisors in extreme cold conditions should take frequent, short breaks in the warm to allow their bodies to warm up. If that includes bringing a hot water bottle to work, then we would highly encourage that too.

3 – Stay well rested and aware

Working outdoors can be challenging, especially during a potential blizzard. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep to stay alert on the job when conditions are more dangerous.

The goal should be to expose as little skin as possible to a cold environment. And even though it may be tempting to build a snow Door Supervisor, it’s probably best to just stay by the door and the heat radiating from inside.

Though if you are going to build a snow Door Supervisor, at least make sure they have an SIA license.

How to work in the security sector

If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain an SIA Licence.

To obtain an SIA Licence, you will need to complete a course. Once you have completed the course, will you then be able to apply for an SIA Licence and work in the security sector.
