Top-Up and Regular Course Difference

1. I would need a top-up course for security officers. I hear you have to do it three months before my licence expires, does the new licence start when the old one expires or when I do the top-up? That would mean I lose 3 months that I paid for.

Answer: The SIA recommends starting the process to renew your licence up to four months before it expires. However, applying early makes the whole process easier and lowers the chance of having a gap in your licence that could stop you from working.

How to Become a Trainer?

2. Please I want to be a trainer and get licenced. I have both CCTV and Door Supervisor badges.

Answer: Train the Trainer course can enable you to become a Trainer and lead the next group. These 2 are the basic requirements: 

• 2 years experience: Firstly, a minimum of 2 years of front-line security experience in the last 5 years in the UK.
• Teaching qualifications: Secondly, you’ll have to complete a few teaching qualifications. You’ll find a full list of these below.

Your CCTV licence and Door supervisor Licence can be an add-on for becoming a trainer.

3. Does a door supervisor licence cover security guard or is that a separate one?

Answer: Yes, a Door Supervisor Licence does cover various Security Guarding roles as well. This is why we always recommend the Door Supervisor course, and why it’s our most popular course! Certainly, with this licence you can work in all of the same roles as a security officer, at the likes of events, corporate officers and retail security, with the added benefit of working on premises which sell alcohol like bars and nightclubs.

4. I need a security job! How do I become an SIA instructor and what is the cost I’m based in the West Midlands

Understanding about Licence Renewal

5. I was given a caution for possession of cannabis in 2020 after I was going through a difficult time in life, I have however, had my licence since 2008 and never once did anything wrong, just made little mistake, In my renewal I did not mention this on this year as I didn’t even remember the incident from 2020, what will happen, will my licence get suspended although its been granted.

What to do if your SIA Licence gets Revoked?

6. I separated from my ex-wife and was not able to get any letter from SIA due to that incident. And I stopped working in the security industry for a long time. I found out that my SIA has been revoked Since last year. What can do too?

Answer: In this situation, before you can get a new SIA licence, make sure you still meet all the requirements. Furthermore, You might also need to take an SIA course as part of the application process. Difference Between 2-days and 1 Week Course

7. What is the difference between a 2-day course and the week’s course I’ve come across both but am not sure which to do. 

Answer: If you’re a Security Officer or Door Supervisor wanting to renew your current licences, the 2-day course is for you. However, if you’re aiming for a Door Supervisor Licence for the first time, you’ll need to take the full 6-day SIA Door Supervisor Course.

Timeline for Getting Badge after Completion

8. Does anyone know How long you get to get your badge once you’ve completed your top-up training?

Answer: After you’ve finished the application, getting your licence and badge can take between 4 to 8 weeks.

Answer: Mock exams are designed to prepare you for the actual exam. For further information,You can get in touch with our customer service, explain to them your reason for extra time, if it is considered valid you will certainly get extra time.
