How Many Speed Cameras Are There In The UK?

Speed cameras, they are everywhere. It’s like you literally cannot turn a corner without seeing another one – staring at you and watching your every move as it salivates at the prospect of grabbing even more money from you.

So, while it may seem that speed cameras are flashing us everywhere we go, according to data, that actually isn’t quite the case.

Figures released by 36 police forces in the UK show that of a total 2,838 cameras, just 1,486 – or 52% are active and catching over speeding law-breakers with some forces even allegedly turning their cameras off all together.

However, many motorists are not aware of this with some police forces admitting that inactive speed cameras are still erected as a deterrent.

Speed cameras currently operate on over 250 miles of UK roads.

But how many actual speed cameras (that are actually working) are there in the UK? Estimates range from 4,000 to a whopping 1,000. With more being constructed on a daily basis.
