How to become a Door Supervisor?
A job in the security sector can lead you along many exciting paths, and for those looking to take their initial step, a Door Supervisor role could be a great place to start. With constant interaction with people and a countless choice of venues to work from, you’ll learn a great deal about human behaviour and enjoy working in different environments.
So long as weekends exist and human beings socialise, there will always be a demand for security operatives in this field.
So, if you have recently made the decision to explore such a role, what exactly will it take to get you behind the red rope?
Training – When applying for a front-line Door Supervisor licence, you must show that you have received the required training of a licensed operative.
Qualifications – You must have one of the qualifications shown below in the image. Or you must have one of the older licence-linked qualifications.
Approval – Make sure your qualifications are valid for SIA licensing. If SIA-endorsed they will be valid regardless of which UK qualifications regulatory authority approved them.
Plan to work in a region not covered by your training? – It might be worth undertaking additional, location-specific training.
What if I have older qualifications? – The SIA will accept older qualifications, so long as the following criteria is met:
- If applying for a qualification for the first time the qualification must have been achieved less than 3 years prior to your application.
- If you have previously held a Door Supervisor licence, it has been less than 3 years since your previous licence was active.
- If your qualification was awarded before June 2010, you must also achieve the ‘Level 2 Upskilling a Door Supervisor Working Within the Private Security Industry’ award before applying for a licence.
What if I need to renew my licence or re-train? – If you already hold a Door Supervisor qualification that was issued after 2010 and includes ‘Physical Intervention Skills’ and Safety Awareness’ training, there will be no need to take refresher training and renew your licence.
Also, if your qualification does not include ‘Physical Intervention’ then you must achieve the ‘Level 2 Upskilling a Door Supervisor Working Within the Private Security Industry award, before you can renew your Door Supervisor licence.
Glad you made it to the end! Now all you need to do is see which course is relevant to you and book away.
Good luck!
